worst product even as a toy Jan 17, 2011
By Y Z I got this for my son using my airline miles that are going to be wasted. I DID NOT expect it to be a decent telescope - I expected it to be a toy. But it doesn't even live up as a toy telescope. It's as horrible as you could imagine. The tripod broke while I was trying to set it up the first time. A screw sticks out within the telescope housing so it's always in your line of sight. And you will eventually blind you eyes trying to focus and see anything clear. You just have to wonder whether anyone from Vivitar paid a single bit of attention to the quality of their products and their reputation whatsoever.
Please, it's not worth a single penny. Save yourself the uttermost frustration.

Bad Quality... Nov 29, 2010
By Guayanes I got this telescope for my 7 years old child from JC Penney a couple of days ago and I have to say that it was a big mistake. The first day after we assembled it started to fall apart. The visibility is terrible, very blurry and the tripod is very shaky and flimsy. Please, do yourself a favor and don't buy it or you will have a hard time with it.

Christmas Gift. Dec 30, 2010
By Chuck D. So I got this Telescope for Christmas 2010 & had to wait a few days to use it. Tried it out tonight & it sucks. I wear glasses & trying to use the "Finder Scope" is a joke. I get something in it's sight & its no where to be found with the telescope. The few times I did come across something, the image was so blurry I could not make sense of it. Then I go to focus in on it & the telescope moves just a pinch & I lose sight of what I had in view. Also the box says the barrel is "ABS" but the instructions say "Housed in an Aluminum body" Nope, it is ABS with a silver paint on it. For the price of this thing, just get yourself a nice pair of Binoculars & have more fun & less headache !

useless junk Jan 31, 2011
By Thick as a brick This deserves zero stars but the review didn't let me select zero. This was the most useless piece of junk ever purchased on Amazon, by me or anyone else.
Simple assembly was required. Unfortunately, it was also impossible. The inserts in the attachment on the telescope were not threaded. The bolts were softer than the unthreaded inserts on the telescope mount, so trying to force the bolts in to cut the threads in the inserts simply tore the threads off the bolts.
After drilling out the inserts and replacing the bolts I attached the 'finder' scope. I don't know what it is intended to find since it doesn't focus on anything. The position of the finder scope made it unusable, so it really didn't matter that it doesn't focus.
Then, I tried to use the scope. The slightest bump - such as putting your eye on the eyepiece, which you need to do to see through it - causes the telescope tube to start shaking. By the time it stopped shaking, I had a headache from standing perfectly still looking at the moving image in the shaking scope.
A name brand like Vivitar should not be selling a product like this.

You get what you pay for. Dec 13, 2010
By Ashton I bought this telescope from Dollar General for $20.00 thinking it could atleast see the moon and few stars. Wait for it...It sucks!!! The tripod itself has got to be the worst tripod ever constructed, it is so shaky and flimpsy, You're going to have the worst of times trying to focus on anything, After a good 30-40 minutes I focused it on the moon, and I wasnt even impressed. The scope is so blurry it made my eyes cry. Please spend a few more dollars and buy something of higher quality.
